Recording Your 3CX Name (Call by Name)
Before you start
Your name recording lets callers find you in the phone system's Call by Name directory. If you don't record it, callers who search by name can't reach you. You record it by calling voicemail from the 3CX app on your cell phone or from a desk phone, and it takes about a minute.
Important: The 3CX app must already be set up (provisioned) on your cell phone before you can record your name. If you don't know your voicemail PIN, submit an IT ticket. IT will reset your 3CX PIN and login info.
Have your voicemail PIN ready from your 3CX welcome email. The voicemail access number is 999.
Record your name
- Open the keypad in the 3CX app, or pick up your desk phone, and dial 999 (or press the Message button if your phone has one).
- Enter your voicemail PIN, then press #.
- Press 9 for Options.
- Press 5 for your name recording (self-identification message).
- Press 0 to start recording. After the tone, say your first and last name only, for example "Sarah Jones."
- Press # to stop recording.
- Press 0 to save it, or follow the prompt to listen and re-record.
- Hang up.
Say only your name, clearly and at a normal pace. Don't add a title, department, or greeting; callers hear this recording when the directory finds a match.
Troubleshooting
| Problem |
What to do |
| Callers can't find me by name |
Make sure you saved your name recording (step 7). If you did and still aren't found, contact IT. |
| Can't find a name setting in the app |
That's expected. The app has no name recording setting; dial 999 instead. |
| PIN is not accepted |
Check the PIN in your welcome email. If it still fails or you don't know it, submit an IT ticket to have your 3CX PIN and login info reset. |
| No welcome email |
Contact IT to have it resent. |
| Recording is cut off or unclear |
Wait for the tone before speaking, hold the phone close, and re-record. |
