What is Decay?

We see that the physical creation is deteriorating and “groaning” because of abuse and neglect by human beings. The world, God's creation, is in decay. From global warming, to deforestation, to lack of access to safe water for millions of people, to species extinction, our earth is in decline at a more rapid rate than ever before.

Why is Healing Decay Important to God?

Imagine what the world looked like when God created it. He gifted this earth with its natural resources to human beings. We were entrusted and expected to care for it. This is important to God. We have a responsibility as Christians to heal decay. Creation, including the earth and its inhabitants, needs to be cared for by strong, thoughtful, and wise people.

The creation waits in eager anticipation for the sons of God to be revealed...in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. - Romans 8:18-21

Healing the Broken Place of DecayAre you passionate about caring for creation?

If so, you might be a Steward. Stewards manage the things entrusted to them with responsibility and care. By definition, Stewards don't own the thing they manage. Therefore, the world is not ours. It is God's (Deut 10:14). Stewards of God's creation believe that the physical creation points to God and all His glory. The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. Psalm 24:1

Decay Can Be HealedHow You Can Get Involved

As a Stewards, you are called to be bring healing to this world and its creatures through taking care of what is God's. Our creator intended for you to be a caregiver. This is how His system is designed and supposed to work. By partnering with creation-care organizations, praying for God's creation, or leading your family and organization you work for in sustainability and waste management efforts, you are being a Steward.

Resources for Stewards

Check out these resources to heal our decaying world.

There are five distinct areas of focus concerning creation care.

Sustainability

Reduce, reuse, recycle! With so much waste generated by our modern lifestyles, we place an unsustainable burden on Creation. Focus on encouraging our community to reduce waste and pursue a lighter, more sustainable lifestyle.

Biodiversity

As large-scale agriculture and suburban sprawl has become the norm, the diversity of plant and animal species has collapsed dramatically, waterways have languished, and indigenous plants are losing out to invasive species across our community. Focus on reestablishing biodiversity to develop indigenous habitats and help struggling species flourish yet again.

Organic Farming

Although large-scale agriculture has demanded ever higher yields and pest resistance, the use of synthetic herbicides and pesticides in our farming has created countless negative carry-over effects which influence humans and Creation alike. Focus on promoting organic farming techniques to restore soil health, increase yields naturally, and encourage ordinary people to rediscover the joys of growing their own food.

Animal Welfare

A heartbreaking outcome of humanity’s neglect of Creation is the suffering and pain inflicted on both wild and domesticated animals. Work to restore the relationship between humanity and animals while advocating for afar more conscientious posture in the ways we interact with our fellow creatures.

Clean Energy

Overreliance on fossil fuels has become one of the chief contributors to climate change, to polluting the Earth, and to creating undue hardships on struggling communities worldwide. Promote and encourage the use of renewable energy sources to help our community free itself from a dependence on those sources which hurt the planet.

A former Creation Care ministry of Grace Church, Project Eden returns in the Summer of 2021 to bring a renewed emphasis on maintaining God's natural world through a focus on sustainability, biodiversity, organic farming, animal welfare, and clean energy.
